'God's Kitchen' was created through a prayerful decision during the Covid-19 Corona Virus situation in 2000/2001'

‘So yesterday was a strange day. All of a sudden we had a “influx” of people contacting us for any extra food items we might have during this Covid lockdown for 21 days. It was just strange. It was a sobering moment as we realize how difficult it is getting and we are only
perhaps half way through this. I don’t know. 🤷‍♂️

Now, we have a good few mouths to feed in our home ourselves as
you may know. These times are uncertain for us but one thing
that is certain is our Faith. So it over rules the fear that tries to creep in. We are blessed with an amazing community that surrounds us. Praise the Lord. We are blessed and we are grateful.

So while we were sitting down and the children were dancing and playing in the braai room. I was chatting with Amy about “How exactly can we assist?” Amy told me to pray about it. That was pretty much the end of the conversation.
I gave it some thought and had supper and called it a night. As I was falling a sleep I
just remember praying about “God’s Kitchen”.

This morning I woke up abruptly as usual with little Caleb wanting
his morning tea. So as I was surfacing I remembered what had transpired the evening before. The immediate thought and feeling was different though. I said to myself “But you need to care for your family first. Because how can you help others if you do not have anything to give?” I remember Pastor Dave teaching me something that I will never forget and that is “You can’t give something you don’t have!” “You need to pray that God will give you a resource so
that you can put it to use”. I learned a lot about Luke through Pastor Dave.

Anyways, I was just about to jump into the shower when we got a phone call from Woolworths. They did not give us an idea of any amounts of food but said we are welcomed to collect. But I need to come now. Normally, most of the Woolies stuff goes to an
amazing family which we love dearly for doing such great work in our community. Johanna ❤️ They reach the “seenagers in our community” They had received such an abundance this last week, we decided to alternate today as they have what they need for the week.
So after some preparation and getting a transport form, and the vehicle etc – off I went.

Driving to Woolies – I was still in my mind going back and forward, working out like perhaps making meals like a large potjie or soups or something that could cater for like a large group and we portion it out and then add some essentials to keep the families going. How I was going to do this was still my battle. But kept bugging me. I was still in thought when Woolies was opening the gate. I was not paying much attention just trying to go through the motions and get back home. As I opened the back of the bakkie the assistant laughed and said you “Are you planning on doing 1x trip with that small bakkie with the amount of food we are going to give you?” 😳

Only then did it dawn on me that while I was still trying to figure out a way, God had already created one! There was such a large amount of food that I still cannot believe it. We can make up parcels for every single person that has contacted and have extra for others that might be in need as well as having enough for our children 🙌🏻

As I was leaving this lady came to me and gave me this flower 🌸. It looks a little warn out. But it still has “fruits”. From up close it has blemishes. But if you take one step back it is so beautiful. I hope you get what I’m saying. Don’t grow tired of serving. Our pastor said in a group chat about a week ago. “Use this season to be a blessing to those in need” It has stuck with me the entire time. I looked at the circumstances, instead of looking at God and His promises.
So here we go. We’ll start packing the parcels and I will drop food off at people that are really needing it at this time.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Sadly, the season of 💙 God’s Kitchen 💙 has come to a stop. I don’t want to say end because I am thinking of a new way to approach the situation of the homeless in our area.

I think the best is to have a proper soup kitchen within the area and get the homeless community involved.

After speaking with a number of people, social development, churches etc it has been put forward that we do not feed the homeless as the numbers are growing and the issues that the community are facing are huge and we are not helping them fight the bigger picture.

It’s a difficult scenario. We have taken a bit of flack from the community.
And we totally understand that skills development and reintegration is paramount. We have been asked to assist with nearby homeless shelters
and homes rather than serve the people of the streets.
It all sounds good on paper, but it’s a difficult task in reality as the majority
of the community do not want to be governed.

Mostly single mothers with children. Which would mean that their children would go into foster care and they would have to seek a night shelter and employment in order to move forward.

We are not quite equipped to handle the masses. So we have to think and work on alternatives. I don’t have the answers right now. But it is on mind 24/7.

I would like to thank every single person that has been involved in God’s Kitchen. We have been blessed with a great season of being among the community and met many many people.

We cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generous input.

We are open to suggestions as we go through this next season of planning.

You are welcomed to contact me anytime.
Lots of love
